klimaaktiv - renewable heating

Program to support decarbonisation in the heating sector, part of klimaaktiv, the Austrian Climate Protection Program of the Federal Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism (BMNT).

The Austrian-wide klimaaktiv renewable heating programme supports decarbonisation in the heating sector, both in urban and rural areas. klimaaktiv promotes the extension of renewable heating for new and existing buildings with activities and measures concerning awareness building, quality enhancement and decision support. There is a product-independent orientation on rapidly changing markets.

The activities are implemented by a consortium of regional and local energy agencies and specialist partners. The Energy Center manages this consortium and is i.a. responsible for the following activities:

  • "Community-building" and organisation for joint learning around the topics of renewable energy supply for dense neighbourhoods using tailor-made formats (regulars, workshops, excursions). The aim: to attract key stakeholders (planners, utilities, property developers, administration, etc.) for renewable heat solutions;
  • Support of neighbourhood development and construction projects to introduce renewable heat solutions into the planning processes and to contribute in the medium term to the implementation of innovative renewable systems;
  • Improving the framework conditions to strengthen the use of renewable heat in urban neighbourhood development;
  • Intensive exchange with the cities of Graz and Salzburg regarding the mentioned topics, especially concerning “Integrated Energy Planning”, Governance processes and framework conditions in favour of an increased extension of climate friendly heat supplies of city neighbourhoods.
