Analysis of trends and developments
The Future Cities team analyses current international trends and local developments, drafts innovative concepts for urban issues, and offers policy-oriented expertise and advice. At the interface of various policy and subject fields, Future Cities works together with international experts from research, economics, urban policy, and planning to learn from successful models and contribute to the global specialist discourse with Viennese know-how.
Conception and consulting
The analyses, conceptions and consultations of Future Cities focus on several strategic questions concerning urban development, housing and location policy, sustainable governance and controlling models for the city and metropolitan region, or challenges in terms of diversity and social inclusion. In collaboration with urban institutions and the economy, Future Cities develops sectoral strategy documents (such as recently, the Viennese 2025 Urban Development Plan or the Viennese 2020 Tourism Strategy) and coordinates monitoring processes with the city’s existing programmes (Diversity, Smart City Monitoring, etc.).
Information and Communication
Future Cities organises specialist dialogues and public information events on various subject areas – from the annual Vienna Housing Research Days to international trade conferences such as “Future City Logistics 4.0” or “We grow together – together we grow” within the scope of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.
